Planning for Coastal Airborne Lidar Surveys - Water Turbidity

Map water depth, Maritime

Service.by Pixalytics Ltd

Pixalytics Turbidity product provides an assessment of the penetration depth of a Lidar laser beam, from an airborne survey system, within coastal waters. Turbidity is the cloudiness of water and is affected by the material both dissolved, and suspended, in the water. The cloudier the water, the shallower depth the Lidar will be able penetrate and so it may not reach and be able to map the seabed. The turbidity of coastal waters varies with the seasons and can be influenced by specific episodic events. Organisations working in marine engineering, energy industries, fisheries and conservation who have to map coastal waters want to ensure airborne Lidar surveys are the correct approach before going through a tendering process. This product provides the likely penetration depth without the need to visit the area and so helps make the decision on whether Lidar surveying is a suitable approach and the most effective time to undertake a survey.

Pixalytics Flood Maps are high quality products which using cutting edge scientific research to provide accurate and up-to-date cost effective flood maps. This product uses Sentinel-1 radar data and our own approach to produce flood maps within a few hours of the acquired data being made available. As this product uses radar data it is not restricted by clouds or poor weather, but it is dependent on Sentinel-1 capturing an image at the time of a flood event which is much less likely for flash flood events. We will indicate the available dates, and show a quicklook of the raw data, in advance of processing so you can see if the flood event is visible. Even without flooding, this product can be used to map the extent of inland water bodies. Organisations working in the insurance industry, flood assessment, coastal and water management will benefit from this product. This product can also be based on commercial radar data for increased spatial resolution and/or coverage; please contact us for further details on this.
